Teamsters Local 251 Drivers' Training School

Teamsters Local 251 announces the opening of the Teamsters Local 251 Drivers' Training School. Dennis Mello has been named Director.

This is an exciting opportunity for the members of this local to further their driving skills. The school is open to all Teamsters Local 251 members. Employees of companies that contribute to the Teamsters Training Fund will be given first preference.

The local has purchased three International tractors and three 28 foot pup trailers for the school. Instructors will concentrate on giving each student one-on-one training. The school will run full time, Monday through Friday, with morning and afternoon classes. Students will be trained in all phases of driving, including general knowledge, air brakes, suspension, backing, coupling and uncoupling, hazardous materials and driving the unit on the street. Each class will have 8 to 10 students. We estimate that the course should take about 6 weeks to complete. Upon completion, students will be taken with the unit for their CDL test. We will offer both Rhode Island and Massachusetts CDL tests. This course would cost over $5,000 if members were to take it from an outside training school. And they would not receive the one-on-one instruction they will get at our school.
